Growing Maddie

Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

Madelyn's first day was a little rough. Mommy and daddy only got about 3 hours of sleep after a long delivery. On top of that Madelyn was having a lot of trouble nursing. She just didn't want to do it even though she was starving. The lactation consultant spent most of the day with us, so we were very thankful of that. Mommy was very happy to find out that Madelyn passed her newborn hearing screening. :)

Madelyn (and Mommy & Daddy) had lots of visitors while she was in the hospital. Grandma Jane, Grandpa Randy, and Auntie Abby (Josh's sister) were all able to stay in Fort Wayne with all of the snow. Grandma Patty and Grandpa Dave also came down for the afternoon. Madelyn was excited because they all brought her pretty pink outfits!! Later that evening Great Uncle Joe and Great Aunt Julie stopped by to visit with Madelyn. Uncle Josh came home from Butler University to meet Madelyn. Great Grandma Morr and Great Grandma Worthington were also able to come and cuddle with Madelyn for a bit. Great Aunt Marsha and some of Madelyn's cousins--Amy, Riley, Quinn, and Jenna came to the hospital to visit as well. She loved snuggling with everyone!

The Delivery: Josh and I went in to Dupont Hospital on January 27 to be induced. I was in the 41st week of my pregnancy and my doctor recommended that we have the baby sooner than later. I started receiving pitocin around 1:00 p.m. on the 28th to start making my contractions more regular and my water was broke around 3:00 that afternoon. The contractions weren't too bad until my water broke, and then it was all down hill. The contractions started coming fast and furious, which was good because it meant labor was progressing, but Madelyn did not like the pitocin. Her heart rate decreased slowed down significantly several times over the next few hours, so they would stop the pitocin and then the contractions would stop. They told us that if her heart rate decreased one more time that they would have to do a C-section. Luckily they put me on oxygen and positioned my body in a way that Madelyn was happy and we were able to deliver normally.

Little Madelyn Grace Beck popped her head out into the world at 1:19 a.m. on January 29th, 2009. She weighed 7 lbs and 10 oz and measured 20 1/2 inches long. We were expecting a 10 lb baby, so we were both a little surprised with such a little girl. She is absolutely beautiful and we fell in love with her from the moment we saw her.

She was greeted by Mommy, Daddy, Grandma Jane, Grandpa Randy, Grandma Patty, Grandpa Dave, Auntie Abby, Uncle Cory, and Aunt Chelsea early that morning. Everyone was so excited to finally see her after such a long delivery process.
