Now we are rolling...

So, I started back to work last week. It actually went a lot better than I thought it would. My first week back was only 3 days, so it was nice to ease back into things. Madelyn did great at daycare, at least that is what they told me. She is having a little bit of trouble sleeping with all of the new noises and other babies around her, but I think that will come with time. Her teacher told me that she is pretty content throughout the day no matter what they are doing, so that is good. It has been nice going back to work. I forgot how much I love my job and enjoy helping people to hear better. It is nice seeing some patients again and getting back in the swing of things. For the time being, I have decided to work 4 days a week so I can spend some extra time with Maddie (I have Fridays off YEAH!!!). My first week couldn't have gone better though.

My friend Andrea got married over the weekend in Columbus, OH. The wedding and reception were both at a conservatory in Columbus. It was absolutely beautiful!!! We had so much fun visiting with the Purdue Audiology crowd. It was SOOO hot though, it was warm outside to start with, and then when you added the lovely effects of the greenhouse it got a little too warm to say the least. :)

Madelyn rolled over (back to front) for the first time April 25th!! She was laying on our bed and just went for it! We flipped her on her back and she rolled over again. Josh found her in her crib on her tummy Sunday morning too. It is funny, she tries so hard to flip over and when she gets on her tummy she doesn't like it. Her little arms get pinned underneath her chest and she just doesn't know what to do. It is incredibly cute though.

Josh and Maddie found some shade under a palm tree at the wedding. Maddie ended up sleeping through most of the action.

Lauren is practicing for motherhood with Maddie, she is going to have a little girl in August!! We can't wait for Maddie to have a little friend to play with!

PU Audiology girls rock!!!

The happy couple!! Andrea & Volkan

This picture was just too funny not to include!! I think Maddie is trying to escape the heat!

The Shower!!!

Today has been an interesting day. Josh and I got up early to get ready to go to Logansport, IN for Abby's (Josh's sister) wedding shower. When we came down stairs Josh let the dog out and I was finishing up a few last things before we hit the road when I noticed our ceiling in our kitchen looked a little funny. I asked Josh about it, so he decided to poke it with his finger, which caused the ceiling to start dripping. Evidently, Josh's shower has been leaking and has now ruined our kitchen ceiling. We put a bucket under it and decided we would take care of it when we returned home ironically after "the shower". I was so upset about the ceiling, I forgot everything--the diaper bag, the directions to the shower, the gift we purchased for Abby...luckily Josh noticed that I forgot the diaper bag before we were out of the driveway--that would have been a real mess.

We found the shower without any problems surprisingly since we didn't have directions. It was at the Inntiquity Inn in Logansport. It is a cute little bed and breakfast with beautiful furniture and flowers everywhere. Maddie and I had a great time at the shower while Josh went golfing with his brother Cory. Maddie is turning out to be a complete Mama's girl. She was fine as long as I was holding her, but any time anyone else attempted to hold her she would start screaming her head off. She really isn't a fussy baby, but she can definitely have her moments. When we arrived back in Auburn, she wouldn't quit smiling and cooing for Josh and I, maybe she is just shy.

We can't wait for your wedding Auntie Abby!!

Peanut...

Everyone keeps asking how Peanut (our Bassett Hound) is doing with the new addition to our family, so I thought that I would give a little update. He has had a really tough time playing second fiddle to Madelyn, but I think he is starting to accept it. I had to laugh when we brought her home from the we were trying to get a good close-up picture of Maddie's face, so we took about 20 photographs in a row. We didn't notice until later that Peanut was in the background...

He starts off sitting up wondering when it is his turn for us to pay attention to him...

Decides hmmm, something itches...

He finally gives up on getting our attention.

He has finally decided to stop barking at her. When we first brought her home, she would be sleeping in her crib or pack-and-play and Peanut would see her arm or leg move and would freak out. He would start barking, which of course would startle Madelyn and we had our very own three ring circus--crying baby, barking dog, frantic new mother. I don't know if he is getting more protective or just jealous of her, but a lot of times I find him sleeping just outside her bedroom door. On a few occasions when she has been crying, he will start howling and when she stops he stops. I think it is just his way of trying to talk to her. He loves to walk beside her stroller. It cracks me up. Josh and I took both Madelyn and Peanut for a walk one day. Josh was in charge of the leash, while I pushed the stroller. Everytime I started to walk fast with the stroller, Peanut would walk fast (do the Bassett jog) to keep up, when I would slow down Peanut would return to his normal pokey waddle.

Madelyn has started to notice Peanut in the last week. She loves to watch his tail wag back and forth. It won't be too long until she is pulling on it. Peanut always tries to wedge himself between Madelyn and I even if there is not enough room.

He likes to smell Maddie and occasionally tries to lick her feet when Josh and I aren't looking.

Most of the time he just sits in his chair and ignores her though.

It was so nice on Friday, I let Peanut outside. He usually starts scratching on the back door when he is ready to come back in. After 20 minutes of not hearing him, I became concerned. I found him taking a nap in the sunshine...ruff life, huh.

Here Comes Maddie Cottontail..

Maddie had a great first Easter! We went down to Grandma and Grandpa Beck’s house on Saturday night. This was our first over-night trip since we brought her home from the hospital. Our car was so packed on the way down by the time we got our luggage, the pack and play, the diaper bag, and the dog, I started to wonder if there was going to be room for Josh, Maddie, and I. We had a good time though. We were able to stop by Auntie Abby and soon-to-be Uncle Blake’s house to see all of the remodeling they have been working on. Their house looks great!! It is amazing how much progress they have made in such a short time!! Maddie was able to meet everyone in the church Josh grew up in on Easter Sunday. She also heard the Beck family sing for the first time! We had a good dinner with her Great Grandma Dorothy, Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Beck too!

Since we weren’t going to be home on Sunday morning, the Easter Bunny came to our house a day early and brought Maddie her first Easter basket!! She loved it as you can see in the pictures!!

Maddie loves to give her Great Grandma Dorothy hugs!!

Madelyn and Grandpa Beck posing for the one and only picture in her Easter dress...someone got fussy, so we had to put some comfy pajamas on quickly.

Maddie loved having Grandma Jane read her bedtime story to her.

I love the ears!!!

Madelyn couldn't have been happier that the Easter Bunny stopped by our house!!

Maddie Found Her Thumb!!

Tummy time is oh so fun!! Look at how high I can hold my head mom!!

So many firsts this week!! Here she is sucking her thumb!!

Maddie and I had a really busy week! After her shots on Monday, she did really well. She never got fussy and slept through the night 4 nights last week!! I was so excited!! We did lots of running around during the day, so that kept us busy.

On Tuesday Maddie and went shopping with Stacia and Adelyn (our friends from our Moms Group). Maddie did really well at the mall and had fun helping me pick some shirts out for work. On Wednesday, Maddie and I drove down to Indianapolis and visited my friends at Riley. They all loved Maddie and had fun getting her to smile. All the girls were surprised how well Madelyn was holding her head up and how alert she was. I was able to get an "What the Cluck" wrap for lunch—one of my favorite past times at Riley.

On Friday Grandma and Grandpa W. were able to babysit Maddie while I went to ENT Audiology’s Annual Thank Goodness It’s Good Friday Celebration. We usually have to work a ½ day on Good Friday, so everyone goes to Cebolla’s for lunch & margaritas after work. It was great seeing all the girls again. It helped me get my Mexican fix for the week too. Josh keeps telling me he thinks I am back to normal again, because I am cold all the time and can’t get enough Mexican food. Bummer for him!!

We helped Grandma Patty celebrate her birthday Friday night! We went out for dinner together and then had ice cream!! Mmm…Maddie can’t wait until she can share in the fun.

Giggling again!! She just never stops!!

Uh oh Dad, Maddie loves bling bling!! Here she is checking out Baljit's sparkly bracelets while Kathy watches.

Snoozing on the job...Maddie fell asleep on Mandy, while visiting Riley.

Happy Birthday Grandma Patty!!

YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!

Madelyn has had a very big day!! Last night, she slept through the entire night for the first time!! I was shocked when I woke up at 6:00 this morning and realized that I hadn't gotten up all night. I saw that the monitor was blinking (indicating sounds were coming from Maddie's room), so I calmly walked down the hallway to check on her. She was laying in her crib, happily sucking on her fingers. When she saw me a great big smile came across her face! It is so much fun having that kind of greeting in the morning.

I had a dentist appointment this morning, so my cousin Heather came over to babysit. Since, Maddie slept so good last night, I was hoping she would sleep through my appointment. No such luck for Heather. Evidently Maddie was a little fussy and poor Heather had to walk around the house bouncing her up and down for an hour. When I walked in the door after my appointment Maddie was half asleep in Heather's arms.

This afternoon Madelyn had her 2 month check-up with her pediatrician, Dr. Fuchs (pronounced Fox). Madelyn weighed 12 pounds 4 ounces (85th percentile)--no wonder my back has been hurting after carrying her. She is 22 3/4 inches tall (65th percentile) and has a head circumference of 15 3/8 inches (55th percentile). She received several vaccines today as well, so she was a little mad at me. All in all, she had to drink one vaccination and received 3 shots. She seems to be doing ok right now--she is asleep!

Maddie's pre-shot picture--she looks so happy...

Maddie with cousin Heather--they bonded while I was at the dentist.

Maddie is 2 months old!!

Well our little girl is 2 months old!! I can't believe it. That means I only have 2 more weeks of maternity leave left. It is going to be so much harder going back to work than I ever imagined. I knew that I would love our baby, but it is just amazing how much she has changed our lives. We are having so much fun staying home together. She is starting to smile a lot more as you can see from the pictures below--it makes all the poopy diapers and crying so worth it!

I a friend of a friend in Fort Wayne makes hair bows for little ones, so I ordered a bunch for Madelyn. She looks so darn cute in them, I am having a really hard time getting her dressed in the morning without giving her a matching hair bow each day. :) She doesn't seem to mind them either.

We have had a few visitors this week. Aunt Julie and Janelle stopped by to cuddle with Maddie. It was cute, Aunt Julie didn't want Peanut to feel left out, so she took him for a walk while Nellie held Maddie. I took some pictures, but our camera isn't working very well. Josh and I had to purchase a new one yesterday--we couldn't not have pictures of Maddie!! Josh's parents came up and went to lunch with all of us yesterday too. They couldn't believe how big Madelyn was getting. She is growing like a weed--she gets her 2 month shots tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully it goes smoothly.

Maddie loves her new hair bows!!

She is just too darn happy!!

What is going on here mom??

I am tired of having my picture taken.

The new camera does short videos too, so we uploaded a video from this morning too. You can tell she takes after her dad!
