It was so nice Josh and I started having Madelyn take some bottles & a pacifier over the weekend. It was hilarious the first time we put the pacifier in her mouth she just stared at it cross-eyed wondering what to do with it. She still hasn’t quite figured it out yet. I have to physically hold it in her mouth, but it does seem to calm her down (sometimes that is). Other times, it seems to make her scream more—go figure!
Starting bottles last Friday was an interesting experience. I was so exhausted for not having more than 2 hours of sleep at a time for the past 2 weeks, I made a bottle for Josh and instructed him to warm it up in the sink by running hot water over it and then give it to Madelyn whenever she woke up in the middle of the night. She woke up around 2:00 in the morning and was screaming. So I gave Josh a “gentle nudge” to wake him up so he could go feed her. He got Maddie out of bed, took her down stairs and tried to console her while warming the bottle up at the same time. After he thought the bottle was warm enough he tried giving it to her, but nothing would come out. After trying for about 10 minutes he gave up and brought her back upstairs to me, so I could feed her. Come to find out our bottles are a little more complicated than I had anticipated. They have 7 pieces!! It seems like a lot just for a bottle. Evidently you are supposed to remove 1 of the 7 pieces in order to have milk flow through the venting system properly. So I fed Maddie that night and we tried the bottle again on Saturday morning with the “extra” piece removed and she took it like a champ!! She is eating 3 ounces from the bottle now—I think she gets a lot more when I feed her, because she seems to be hungry faster after getting a bottle.
Josh also had his first solo parenting experience on Saturday. I was going stir crazy at home and thought that since Maddie was taking bottles so well, I would leave for a few hours. I ended up going shopping with Grandma Patty for the first time since finding out that Maddie was a little girl!! Let me tell you it is so much more fun to buy clothes when you know the gender!! We both bought so much girly stuff and loved every minute of it!! I can’t wait to start dressing her up in all of her fun new outfits! Josh did fine staying at home with Madelyn. His parents were able to come up and visit with him and Maddie for a few hours, so I think that made him feel much better about the situation.
Wednesday this week, Maddie and I went to a Mom’s group at Dupont hospital. It was so much fun. She was a little fussy, but we learned how to do infant massages!! After we started doing the massage, Maddie relaxed and was wonderful for the rest of the time. I am so glad to have another “anti-fussy tool” in my arsenal!!
Maddie and I are going to a baby shower with some college friends this Sunday and are very excited about that!! I can’t wait for her to meet Mommy’s friends!!
Maddie swinging in her little lady bug outfit!!
Maddie loves it when Daddy comes home for lunch! She can't take her eyes off of him!
Yay! I love all of the pictures! Could she get any sweeter? Kudos to you for going to the mom's group. I was a part of an online group, but it would've been so nice to have a reason to get out of the house and meet other moms. You guys seem to be figuring this stuff out really quickly!
